This Preface is being written at the joint UK–US Hospital in Helmand Province, Southern Afghanistan. Over the last few weeks the Hospital has received casualties from gunshot, burns, mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Adults, children, soldiers and civilians have all been received and cared for according to clinical need.
