Life is dangerous. A glimpse at the news on any given evening shows a depressing array of disasters, both natural and manmade. As a resident of New Orleans, I know more than my fair share about disaster. New Orleans, of course, was devastated in 2005 by the ravaging effects of Hurricane Katrina, which remains to this day the costliest disaster in the US history and ranks among the top three of the most expensive disasters in the world.
