The reviews included in this volume are based on the work presented at the Aegean Conference “4th Crossroads between innate and adaptive immunity,” which occurred between September 11 and September 16, 2011, at the Royal Myconian Conference Center in Elia, Mykonos, Greece. This conference was the fourth in the series and brought together an international group of experts whose research focuses on the mechanisms by which innate and adaptive immunity is mounted in the host and the cellular and signaling pathways that lead to effective immunity. The conference included sessions dedicated to host recognition of and response to pathogens, innate immune responses, antigen presentation, and adaptive immunity.
