We are proud editors of this follow-up edition of the well-received Handbook of Experimental Pharmacology Volume 170 “Atherosclerosis: Diet and Drugs,” which was published more than 15 years ago. Since then, major progress has been made in the primary and secondary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVDs), thanks to improved control of the classical risk factors with wellestablished causality in the pathogenesis of ASCVDs, namely, LDL-cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, and prothrombotic states.
