In 1981, Robert Rosenfeld and I (GSE) wrote The Nature and Treatment of the Stress Response. The book was the first of its kind integrating psychophysiology and neuroendocrinology with clinical psychology and psychiatry to achieve two specific goals: to improve our understanding of the complex mosaic of human stress and improve our ability to treat pathognomonic stress response syndromes, but more importantly to prevent, mitigate, and treat the pathogenic stress response itself.
