Trends in alcohol consumption and attributable
mortality in the WHO European Region, 1990–2014

I am pleased to present this report, which gives an overview of alcohol consumption and alcohol-attributable mortality in the WHO European Region during the period 1990–2014. The European Region was the first to adopt an alcohol action plan in 1992, which was later followed by a number of policy instruments and, most recently, by the global strategy to reduce the harmful use of alcohol from 2010, and the European action plan to reduce the harmful use of alcohol 2012–2020.
