Today, the economic case for investing in health promotion and noncommunicable disease prevention is stronger than it has ever been. Chronic noncommunicable diseases are the main cause of death and disability. Yet the main risk factors associated with chronic diseases are largely preventable, and this book provides compelling evidence that addressing those risk factors is an efficient use of governments’ money. In particular, the book presents the case for investing upstream, prior to the onset of illness and before health care services are required.
