As the impact of chromatin-modifying complexes and histone modifications has become more apparent, as methods of proteomic analysis have blossomed, and as whole genome sequences have become available, the field of “epigenetics” has exploded. Over the past decade, it has even given birth to new related fields such as epigenomics. Today, epigenetics is of as much interest to physician scientists studying cancer biology as it is to basic scientists working with model organisms like yeast or fruit flies.
