Among the diverse challenges facing clinicians during the last century is the staggering increase in its proportion of elderly members, which is directly linked to the prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) like Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD). NDDs are considered major contributors to disability and disease in the globe community. All epidemiological studies of dementia show a strong correlation between prevalence and age. In the age group of 60–64 years of age the prevalence of dementia is below 1%; it then doubles approximately every 5 years reaching a prevalence of about 50% among those aged 90 years or older.
