Lipids constitute a diverse array of molecules with an astounding range of functions in biological systems in both health and disease. Many of the greatest scientific minds of the last century committed their energies to the identification of lipids and sterols and to characterizing how these molecules are synthesized and metabolized by a large number of cell types.
