Barring misfortune, there is a general expectation that our skeletal muscles will remain in effective service for our allotted ‘three-score- years-and-ten’ (Psalm 90, king James Bible, 1611) despite daily exposure to a variety of traumatic insults. It is now clear that this maintenance entails efficient operation of appropriate repair processes.
