The identification of the cannabinoid CB1 receptor as the mediator of shortterm and a mediator of long-term retrograde inhibition of synaptic transmission has changed the cannabinoid field profoundly. For with this discovery, the CB1 receptor moved from a G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) associated predominantly with the drug abuse field, into the neuroscience mainstream.
