Impact on Global Health

In dedicating the NIH campus in 1940, President Roosevelt could look back to a proud scientific era that began around the time of his birth in 1882. In those days of Koch and Pasteur, the causes of important infectious diseases, such as cholera, tuberculosis, and diphtheria, were discovered, and many vaccines and therapeutics were rapidly developed.
