Carotid artery stenting has evolved remarkably over the past three decades to become a promising alternative to carotid endarterectomy, especially for patients deemed to have high surgical risks. Several crucial developments have enabled carotid stenting to be performed safely and achieve durable effectiveness in stroke prevention.
