Amyloid is a fascinating phenomenon. Proteins that have been shaped by millions of years of evolution lose their structure, if they had one, and gain a new structure, in which regardless of their amino acid sequence, they form tightly bound “onedimensional” arrays of indefi nite length and become insoluble.
