This volume deals with what is currently known about the development of hearing and the auditory system in humans. The chapters in the volume are arranged roughly in “bottom-up” order, beginning with the development of the ear, moving on to the development of the auditory nervous system, and then to the development of various aspects of perception and cognition that depend on the development of the ear and auditory nervous system.
