The experimental approaches and methodologies of genomics have revolutionized cancer research. The ability to scan the entire genome for relevant changes in DNA sequence, copy number, and location has generated staggering amounts of information about the derangements occurring in the genomes of cancer cells of individual patients. However, with a few welcome and notable exceptions, this information has not yet yielded major insights into the vulnerabilities of cancer cells, nor has it provided clues leading to widely effective therapies.
