As a primary care physician I have seen the health and social consequences of excessive alcohol use and I have been frustrated by my inability to prevent them. After a few years in practice it became clear to me that my assumption that someone else was taking care of the problem was very wrong. It turns out that although there is a specialty care system that helps people who seek help, most people don’t enter it (and it can’t deliver all of the proven effective treatments anyway). The situation so impressed me that I decided to devote my career to figuring out how to address the problem as a generalist. Recently I saw that there was no resource for people like me trying to do the same, so I decided to deliver this book…
