This book has been written to help clinicians give the best care possible to people suffering from the effects of intractable breathlessness from advanced disease. The word people is used here, rather than patients for several reasons. First, although intractable breathlessness is managed primarily within a clinical, medical system it is important to remember that it is a lived, personal experience affecting all aspects of an individual’s life.
