A Clinical Guide
The effect of emotions in the practice of medicine has long been acknowledged, given their underpinning for the development of double-blinded placebo- controlled trials. Blinding of patients for research is necessary because sometimes the act of taking even an inert substance can lead to improvement in a patient’s health condition (which is defined as a placebo response). This improvement can be attributed to a patient’s psychological response to a therapy, which can lead to beneficial physiological changes.
