A Clinical and Pathophysiological Approach
Lung health is a precious commodity and is essential for human productivity as well as the quality of our individual lives. Unfortunately, there is a worldwide increase in mortality from lung diseases of various types that stands in sharp contradistinction to the declines in cardiovascular disease mortality. A progressively modernized world with ready access to tobacco products and constant exposure to air pollution in our larger and evermore industrialized cities is certainly a major cause. However, a major risk factor for acute and chronic lung diseases is rarely cited in textbooks and reviews of the global pandemic in lung diseases.
