This book primarily addresses the detection of more subtle and frequently missed fractures. There is no attempt to cover all fractures, especially those that require imaging simply to confirm their presence or visualize the precise position of the fractured fragments. In keeping with this, there also is emphasis on evaluation of the soft tissues and periarticular fat pads, which can focus one’s attention on the site of bony injury that is not readily apparent. The value of comparative views also is emphasized. Musculoskeletal MR is included to emphasize its futuristic and expanding role in the Emergency Room and acute care setting. The focus will be on what is different in children and not a simple replication of what occurs in adults.
