Over the past 20 years, I have been teaching cardiology to physicians and other health care professionals. When I ask my trainees to provide me with a disease that they are not comfortable managing, they almost always have the same reply: pericardial disease. The realization of this gap in training has motivated me to create this book which is specifically devoted to Pericardial Disease. Pericardial disease is a broad term that describes a wide range of pathologies. The clinical aspects of pericardial disease encompass acute and recurrent pericarditis, pericardial effusion and pericardial tamponade, constrictive pericarditis, and effusive-constrictive pericarditis.
