Extraarticular Surgical Techniques
Extra-articular reconstruction has been employed over the past century to address anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) deficiency, but the technique has not gained favor owing primarily to residual instability and secondarily to the development of degenerative changes in the lateral and medial compartments of the knee. As a consequence, intra-articular arthroscopic reconstruction has become the technique of choice.
