I am neither statistician nor economist. I am a simple surgeon. Yet as a breast surgeon trained as a general surgeon and recertified an embarrassing number of times, it seems an appropriate time to share a few personal reflections on the state of our profession as we embark on a new century of progress in the care of the breast patient. Within this modest book the reader will discover familiar names as well as topics both familiar and perhaps not so familiar.
