Since the beginning of the new millennium, most developed countries have experienced remarkable reductions in injuries and fatalities resulting from motor vehicle crashes. In presentations made during the 22nd International Technical Conference on the Enhanced Safety of Vehicles, June 13–16, 2011, Washington, DC, representatives of governments from throughout the world reported 25–50% reductions in motor vehicle crash-related fatalities since the year 2000.
