The glomerulus has always been the signature structure within the kidney, a beautiful object of fascination from the moment doctors could examine kidney tissue under the microscope. There is no denying the importance of glomerular diseases because they are a major cause of end-stage kidney disease globally throughout the life-span. However, approaches to the scientific study of glomerular disease lagged behind other structures in the kidney and other organs.
