Simply stated, persons living with dementia suffer. This textbook serves as a call to recognize and address the suffering inherent in dementia. Dementia, now referred to as major neurocognitive disorder (MNCD) in the 2013 edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM- 5), is conceptualized as a cognitive disorder with concomitant functional impairment.
