During the last decades, I witnessed the growing importance of computer science skills for career advancement in Health and Life Sciences. However, not everyone has the skill, inclination, or time to learn computer programming. The learning process is usually time consuming and requires constant practice, since software frameworks and programming languages change substantially overtime. This is the main motivation for writing this book about using shell scripting to address common biomedical data and text processing tasks.
