In 2007, clinicians were considering ideas to determine the use of the right line, for the right patient, at the right time. Multiple stakeholders suggested an algorithm would meet the requirement for guiding clinicians in the decision for device selection; however, I believed it did not fully address the ever-changing dynamics of patient-centred vascular access management. As it turned out, there were other clinicians who held the same belief.
