The goal of this text is to provide a concise reference addressing ocular anatomy and physiology across species, approaches for assessing ocular toxicity and regulatory expectations regarding ocular toxicology. The text is intended for toxicologists and other scientists involved in conducting toxicology studies for regulatory purposes and/or reviewing data from such studies. Ocular toxicity is known to occur following intended or unintended exposure of ocular tissues to xenobiotics. It can occur following local exposure of the eye to an agent or after exposure via oral or other routes of administration.
