The environment is one of the important health determinants of concern to WHO. Among its pillars, Health 2020 (the comprehensive public health framework developed by the WHO Regional Office for Europe and its 53 Member States for the years to come) includes the promotion of supportive environments and resilient communities. Some important environmental health risks result from stressors of industrial origin, as documented in several instances in Europe.
