Since 1989, the unfolding environment and health process in Europe has driven improvements in the environment and health. It has done so through the multisectoral European Environment and Health Committee – a coalition of WHO Member States, intergovernmental organizations and civil-society organizations – and through five-yearly ministerial conferences that set priorities and commitments, such as the WHO Third Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health, held in London in 1999.
