After 45 years in publication, this text continues to provide postgraduate students of obstetrics and gynaecology with the basic knowledge they need to progress in the specialty and also reference for established practitioners who will always feel the need to enhance their knowledge. Although the field is now populated with many sub‐specialists, and individual areas of study advance independently, there continues to be the need for coordinating knowledge so every aspect can be considered in the overall context of the specialty.
