The laparoscopic repair of inguinal hernias quickly followed the development of the laparoscopic approach to the cholecystectomy. This operation was, and continues
to be, a controversial subject. In contrast, the adoption of the laparoscopic methodology for the treatment of the other hernias of the abdominal wall has experienced continued growth.
