Dramatic epidemiological changes are presently taking place in the western world as well as in rapidly developing countries such as China and India. These deep modifications in the distribution of malignant tumors impose a reassessment of our clinical practice. In the UK, 155,000 people aged >70 years are diagnosed with cancer every year. They represent 50% of all cancer diagnosis, and this number is expected to increase substantially over the next decades.
