Understanding cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in regulation of angiogenesis has been an area of intensive biomedical research. In broad terms, this interest stems from the fact that a comprehensive knowledge of how to control accentuation of “good” and attenuation of “bad” angiogenesis offers promising therapeutic modalities for ischemic cardiovascular diseases and solid cancers, respectively.
