Movement disorders is a fi eld fi rmly based in the outpatient clinic. The vast majority of patients with hypokinetic and hyperkinetic movement disorders receive their care in the neurologist’s of fi ce, and, except for those patients who undergo deep brain stimulation, they rarely encounter the hospital or emergency room. It is precisely for this reason that a book devoted to movement disorder emergencies seemed appropriate over 10 years ago.
