Deterioration in the quality of health professionals is a big concern in Japan. The deterioration is caused by the fact that in order to respond to a serious shortage, a large number of health workers have been produced rapidly without any effective quality assurance. As a means to improve the quality in health professions, there has been an upsurge of interest in interprofessional education (IPE) in academic institutions around the world.
