In the mid-1990s, a number of clinical geropsychologists working with nursing home (NH) residents became aware that the federal agency overseeing health insurance for older adults was taking a close look at, and questioning, psychological services delivered in long-term care settings. This was purported to be in response to their having uncovered some questionable practices among a few clinicians.
