Project management is defined as “the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to activities to meet project requirements” (PMBOK 2000). Healthcare informatics staff are constantly involved with projects, whether as an analyst defining requirements for a system upgrade, a manager determining projected staffing patterns, a physician championing a new computerized physician order entry system, a staff development instructor creating a critical care course, or an informatics nurse implementing software applications.
