Clinical Perspectives on Urinary Tract Infection
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) constitute a signifi cant health-care burden, affecting over 13 % of adult women yearly and comprising a lifetime prevalence of over 50 %. As such, the economic consequences and effect on quality of life of even routine UTIs are substantial. Add to that the impact of complicated UTIs – those infections occurring in patients with underlying anatomic abnormalities or those with urosepsis – and the effect on our health-care system is staggering.
