Existing pharmacological treatments for Parkinson’s disease (PD) are largely focused on a dopamine replacement strategy. However, despite dramatic motor benefits with levodopa and other anti-parkinsonian agents, particularly in early disease, patients continue to suffer disability with chronic treatment and advancing disease.
