Cytokines have been a focus of scientific interest at least since the 1980’s. Analyzing their expression patterns has permitted a better understanding of the pathogenesis of various diseases, including the inflammatory dermatoses. Exploring T-cell mediated skin diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and allergic contact dermatitis in this context is of particular interest since the skin is becoming increasingly recognized as a “visible immunological organ”.
