Vascular surgery has evolved and expanded in a spectacular fashion during the last 50 years. During this time previously untreatable conditions have become treatable and dealt with on a regular basis by vascular surgeons. Many of the pioneers of vascular surgery were from Europe, starting with Cid Dos Santos who invented angiography and made the whole field of vascular surgery possible.
