The term «childhood illnesses» conjures up images of a feverish condition with red spots or a baby’s teething troubles – reminiscent of the scenario with a brand new car when the engine mysteriously starts to shudder on an uphill incline – but rarely evokes crooked backs or bandy legs. Orthopaedics has long since outgrown its children’s shoes, particularly since its first steps stretch right back to Hippocrates (…on clubfeet one might say).
