From its inception, when the CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System (Accuray Incorporated, Sunnyvale, CA) was used to treat only intracranial lesions, the fundamental problem that had to be solved to make frameless stereotactic radiosurgery a reality was how to hit a moving target. If the painful, cumbersome stereotactic head frame was to be eliminated, a new method for targeting brain tumors would have to be devised.
