A few years ago, at the same time that I was searching for a topic for my Ph.D., I was also planning to become pregnant for the first time. As an educated upper middle class Israeli, apart from following medical advice and taking folic acid before getting pregnant, everybody around me also went for genetic testing, either prior to pregnancy or in the first stages of pregnancy.
