During the last decade, the sources for ultrashort laser pulses developed from homebuilt prototype systems requiring tedious alignment by specialists into commercial turn-key products. Today they deliver laser pulses with durations of a few femtoseconds (1 fs = 10−15 s) and cover a wide range of pulse energies and repetition rates.
