The introduction of robotic technology into modern day operating theatres has changed the way that surgery will be performed. The last 5 years have shown a paradigm shift toward the adoption of robotic surgical techniques by private and academic institutions alike. For example, in just 4 years, the number of radical robotic prostatectomies alone has increased from a mere 300 to over 16,000 in 2005.
